Personally, I can't study or make homework unless some music is playing, but what is the right music to listen to? For some people, music is not necessary, but if you're just like me, some specific types of music might be more helpful for you to memorise your curriculum. Here are some tips on which music might help you the best. Of course everyone is different, but these tips usually work for everyone in general!

1. Choose music you don't know the lyrics of

If you don' know the lyrics of a song, you can just enjoy the sounds of the song, but if you do know what they are saying you probably will get tempted to sing along. This will distract you from your studying and cause you to take much more time to memorise or understand it, and might also confuse you.

So, this would be a no:

2. Stick to slow songs

If you stick to slow songs, the music is much less likely to distract you from what you're doing, which is our main goal. So try to avoid that hard metal you were listening on Spotify and try to listen to some slow pop, jazz or even classical music.

Such as this:

3. Try out Jazz

Classical music is proven to be the most effective while studying, but jazz is as well. There are three stages of learning: relaxation, active learning, and memory consolidation, jazz is proven to mostly enhance the first two stages and thus will probably make you a more active and relaxed learner.

Something like this maybe:

Or if you want a bit more pop:

4. Don't stop listening!

Research has indeed shown that listening to music during study improves academical performance, so don't hit pause, play whatever you think helps you focus better! Use the link below to access a full playlist of songs, which could enhance your studying! Good Luck!
