How to get your mess together

Being a student is stressful. Some students have ruined their school reputation in a split second. People went from motivated students, to students who just don't care anymore. Their homework is made with no effort, or just never made, and their grades are near failing or already failing. This can be caused by procrastination, laziness, lack of motivation or other factors in your life. (You can look at our other posts on these topics)

1. Understanding 'why'

In life, you should always ask 'why'. It is a simple word with a complex meaning. You can ask 'why?' In almost every situation. But... 'why' should you bother? You need to ask yourself 'why' do I need to go to school? 'Why' do I need good grades? 'Why' should I take school more seriously? If you become aware of the importance of school, and what things you can achieve, you realize that you have to change your attitude towards school life.

2. Start over

Like new years resolutions, you should try to give yourself goals for the upcoming school year. Try to become a new you, with a fresher attitude towards school. You can do this by making an achievement board, where you make a collage of things you want to achieve. Preparing is key in this situation. Don't arrive late at school because you forgot to pack your lunch or forgot your locker key.

3. Give yourself time

Giving yourself a break can do wonders. This doesn't mean doing nothing, but it means trying to focus on things you think are important in life. If you can pick out your values and hobbies, you can focus on what you want to strive for in life. Thinking about what you want to be when you grow up is one of the hardest things for a teen, since we are pressured to already know. Giving yourself a break can allow you to explore new things. Personally, I think that thinking is one of the most powerful solutions in almost every situation. Thinking allows your brain to go into your own zone free of ideas and imagination.
